Sensitive questions: your call

Application forms often ask about your ethnicity, health, disability or religion. These answers are yours to give or to keep, and so is the choice of whether Trabalero fills them. By default it leaves them for you: it doesn't fill them or store them. It never sends them to AI.

The categories

Trabalero recognises questions about these topics and, by default, leaves them for you:

  • Race and ethnicity
  • Disability status
  • Veteran or military service status
  • Sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Religion or religious belief
  • Trade union or union membership
  • Health or medical conditions, including pregnancy

The check is deliberately broad. It would rather catch too many questions than miss one: a question caught by mistake costs you one field typed by hand, while a question missed would mean filling in something this personal without asking you.

What you'll see on the form

By default, when Autofill meets one of these questions, it leaves the field empty and marks it for you to answer yourself. Nothing is chosen for you, and nothing is sent anywhere. With the switch below turned on, it fills the answer you saved instead.

The one switch, and it's yours

By default, these questions are not stored or filled, and never sent to AI.

Turn on Self-identification in the side panel's Settings, or Allow storing and autofilling special category data in your account's Settings, and Trabalero stores your answers and fills them like any other question. It's off until you turn it on.

Either way, your answers are never sent to AI. When AI helps with an application's questions, sensitive questions are left out of what it receives.

Why we built it this way

Most of these topics are what the GDPR calls special category data (Article 9): information that needs stronger protection because of what it reveals about a person. On an application form, these questions are usually optional, and an answer given by software can't be taken back once the form is sent.

An autofill tool that treats "email address" and "do you have a disability?" the same way will one day answer both. Trabalero is built to tell them apart, and to leave the second to you unless you say otherwise.

It's also why Trabalero never sends applications in bulk. Every application gets your review before you press submit.

Should you answer them?

That's your decision, and it can depend on the employer and the country. Our guide to diversity and disability questions can help you make it.
